peshawar—The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and the Pakistan Railways Monday organized a joyful safari train trip from Peshawar to Attock Khurd for the Christian minorities to celebrate Easter festival.
A large number of picnickers hailing from all walks of life, including Christian families and youngsters, male and female students and journalists started a day-long excursion themed, as “Easter festival,” from Peshawar Cantt Railway Station at morning and culminated at the historic Attock Khurd after passing through Pabbi, Nowshera, Khushal Kot, Akora Khattak, Jehangira, Indus River and Attock Bridge.
TCKP Managing Director, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, General Manager Sajjad Hameed and other officials were present on the occasion. Officials of TCKP welcomed the guests on the plat-form of Peshawar Cantonment Railway Station with bouquets and garlands before the train left for its destination at 9.00 am.
The passengers were briefed about the historic perspective of the train track and various railway stations in Pabbi, Nowshera, Khushal Kot, Akora Khattak, Jehangira, Indus River and Attock Bridge and Attock Khurd. The decision to theme train tour to a specific celebration or noted personality had already been planned but it was suspended for a few months due to terrorists attack on the Bacha Khan University in Charsadda to express solidarity with the victim families.
However, the safari train trip relaunched with Easter festival to mark the happiest occasion with minority brethren. More such trips are on the cards for which tickets are available at the Peshawar Tourist Information Centre, adjacent to Peshawar Museum during working hours and seats are reserved on ‘first come first serve basis’.
Talking to the media persons, MD Mushtaq Ahmed Khan said that TCKP was taking steps to promote tourism in the province. He said the safari train excursion was suspended be-cause of sabotage acts of terrorists in Charsadda and elsewhere in the province but it is now restarted to provide the people with recreational and entertainment opportunities.
The official said that this time the train tour had been arranged for the minorities so that they could also enjoy the happiest occasion with zeal. The members of Christian families stated that it was a good approach of the authorities to boost domestic tourism. They said it was a source of enjoyment for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tourists from elsewhere in the country
